For the first time since 1995, the Virginia General Assembly has passed a major overhaul of the Virginia child-support guidelines. House Bill 933 passed both the House and the Senate and is expected to be signed by the governor and effective in 2014. Support payors and recipients in some income brackets will see their child support obligation reduced as a result of the guideline changes, while other payors and recipients will see the number increase. Dan Gray has written an article regarding the impact of the legislative change on existing and future child support orders. His article will be published in the upcoming edition of the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section Quarterly.
