Heather Cooper, Adele Garmirian, Rob Worster, and Joanne Randa attended the Annual Family Law Seminar on September 28, 2012. This year’s focus was those military issues common in divorce and post-divorce litigation.
As in prior years, the seminar began with the Annual Legislative Update presented by the Honorable Scott Surovell and the Annual Virginia Case Law Update presented by Debra Powers, Esquire. Both were very helpful in keeping us up to date on recent developments on the law and recent legislative actions.
The military portion of this seminar was presented by an attorney that Cooper Ginsberg Gray, PLLC, has consulted with in the past on particularly complex military issues—Mark Sullivan, Esquire, of Raleigh, North Carolina. Mr. Sullivan covered areas such as the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, military pension division, survivor’s benefit plans, family support, medical coverage and military nonsupport regulations and garnishment along with custody and visitation issues.
The seminar ended with a discussion lead by the Honorable Arthur B. Vieregg and Burke F. McCahill on various military and ethical issues.
We gained a wealth of knowledge from this valuable seminar, and would encourage any legal professional to attend similar seminars on military divorce and family law issues.
