On September 30, 2011, Cooper Ginsberg Gray held the 11th Chipping in to End Domestic Violence Charity Golf Tournament at Laurel Hill Golf Club. More than 130 golfers participated in the event which raised over $23,000 for Artemis House.
David organized and emceed the event with the help of the Cooper Ginsberg Gray staff. After setting up registration, contests, sponsor signage and box lunches, we hit the course to assist in several ways. The duos of Stephanie and Christina and Joanne and Dawn solicited participants for the “Hit the Green” contests on two of the par three holes. Nathan and Rob encouraged golfers to test their skills on the putting contest. Heather and Dan made the rounds to thank the participants, while Robert worked behind the scenes to ensure the golfers had enough food and drink throughout the event.
In the end, the team of Charlie Miracle, Justin Leavitt, Derek Taylor, and Scott Langstaff notched the lowest combined score and took home the grand prize of green fees to Laurel Hill, windbreaker jackets, golf shoe carriers and a dozen golf balls. The team with the highest combined score (who will remain nameless) scored ball retrievers, and a sympathetic round of applause. Nearly all participant golfers took home prizes, which varied from an Alex Ovechkin autographed hockey puck, to a weekend stay at the Hilton Tysons Corner, to an array of golf gear and apperal.
We are thrilled with the turnout and the funds raised. We appreciate all of those who sponsored the event, namely L-3 Communications, the primary tournament sponsor. We also want to thank the staff at Laurel Hill Golf Club for their logistical assistance; organizing 130 golfers is no easy task. And, last but not least, thank to all of the participants who helped make the event a success.
